Out of the ten differen Laws of Simplicity that exist (Reduce, Organize, Time, Learn, Differences, Context, Emotion, Trust, Failure, and The One!) I found the three the resonate within me the best are Organize, Time, and Learning. I feel pretty stronly about Differences and Failure as well though.
When it comes to the law of Organization, I feel that it is used in order to function. When I speak of this in terms of life I refer to where my daughter needs to be, where I need to be, what day it is, certain times, etc. Organization helps us manage our budgets as well as our time. Time and Oraganization go great together for we have to organize our time in order to have a successful day (in my hectic life anyway). This applies to the world of media and art as well. If we can provide the most convenient sites for our demographics, we would be incorporating the laws of organization and time in a way that allows our views to work through the structure efficiently and without any snaggs or hassles.
Learning is a huge part of who I am. I thrive on learning new techniques and new tricks/shortcuts/ways to do things. When I get together with another friend or co-worker I love to have other critique certain projects or situations. This helps me step back to see things from other view points. I also love debates because although I am trying to get my point across I am also able to hear other sides of the views based on other arguments. This is all part of a learning process that I find very effective. Anything through experience is a great way to figure things out. Through a perspective of an artists aproach, especially in the media world, its known that our technology is continuously changing and in order to understand all of the up-and -coming changes it is importants to stay ontop or researching new technologies that are being introduced to help save time and keep you up to date with the demand of the clients.
I also mentioned that I feel strongly about differences and failure as well. Diversity in our culture is becoming a huge part of what makes a place comfortable it seems. People choose places of employment, colleges, and neighborhoods based on diversification. If that's the case then why wouldn't they want diversity within our growing technologies. The article I read previously read said it perfectly when they emphasized the fact that a main goal should always be to set yourself apart from the competition in order to gain attention in the market. With the vast range of technologies in our world today there are so many complex ideas that we need to "adopt simplicity". By doing so, we can make sure that our society is understanding the flow of our new lines of communication. Afterall, "Communication is the key to a healthy realtionship" says Mr. Ruebel, one of my highschool teachers. That quote stands true to this day as will it always. If we making consumers of technology feel overwhelmed as though everything we promote is "over their heads" then we have lost them by failing to pick up on the Law of Simplicity.
Speaking of "fail" that brings me to my next thought. Failure in The Laws of Simplicity says that "some things can never be made simple." That may hold true for certain things, but I look at failure in a whole new light. I see failure as opportunity; I see it as a chance to learn something new. This brings me back to my original thoughts I expressed earlier in my blog. Learning is a huge part of who I am and what this society is that we live in. Without failure we would never know where the improvements need to be made. By accepting failures we may have wasted time but not nearly as much time has been wasted if we dont take actions on imlpimenting ways to prevent future failures. Another quote comes to mind from my highschool Adult Living teacher about the 5 P's: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performances.
In esense, the 10 Laws of Simplicity seem as though they can all work together in order to provide an organized, efficient, yet simple service for our society and the future generations to come.
