Collage

The theme for my collage started out as the 1970's and gradually just turned into the Watergate Scandal. The actual inspiration for the collage was the picture that I found of Nixon, and the picture of myself, once I got them next to each other. I chose to put different things in here for different reasons: 1) The picture of me holding up the sign for peace is supposed to be a nod to how it was sort of Nixon's trademark, and that's why the rainbow peace sign is there as well.2) Choosing D.C. as the background and adding the Washington monument in just seemed like a natural fit to the theme. 3) The "You've got blood on your hands." as well as the handprint symbolize how Nixon did in a sense have blood on his hands in the whole scandal, and the "Silence=Death" is supposed to symbolize how the silence on the tapes essentially killed Nixon's political carreer. 4) The Elephant and Donkey obviously symbolize the two major political parties in the U.S. and their parts in what happened: the Republicans causing corruption and the Democrats being invaded. 5) "The Band Played On." is supposed to be a metaphor for the U.S. government, because they moved on from the scandal and didn't let it ruin them or the country. 6) The poster on the top I just added because I thought it was really cool and kind of went along with the time period, and it refrences war, which goes along with the chaos of the scandal in general.
